The story of the Shunammite woman in 2 Kings 4:8–37 is both simple and complex. Though unnamed, her spirit of honoring and providing hospitality for Elisha, the prophet of the one true God, was described as that of “a great woman." Her actions were worthy of being included in the Bible because she laid out a blueprint of a servant’s heart in action. She showed her reverence for God by providing for His servant, giving him food and ensuring that he had shelter, and becoming his patron.
